2017 Spring Arts Festival

Though the sun did not shine, our artists did. Unfortunately, the weather was a complete washout with thunder storms from 9:00 – 10:30 am, so the festival was moved into the Cafeteria. Though many artists who had signed up could not exhibit (fear of damaging precious artwork), we did enjoy the artwork of Jamie Reams and Megan Kelley. We also heard the beautiful voices of several FSW singers like Cheyenne Helfrich who played keyboard and sang the theme song from Titanic and Tikaya Foreman who read her poems and sang a few original songs. Our very own Nahomie O’Connor surprised everyone by singing “A Candle by the Window.” This year we were delighted with Dr. Robert Barrett’s skills with the guitar. Because of his participation, the Cultural Arts Club is considering adding faculty to the Art Festival.

By noon, we were ready to listen to the 2017 Serendipity Writing Contest winners. Miki Morales won  – 1st prize for poetry, Carmide Arnes earned 2nd place for poetry and 1st place for short story. Kayliegh Tomas received 2nd place in the short story category. Prof. Orobello, facilitator and sponsor of the Cultural Arts Club, Serendipity, and Spring Arts Festival,  called each winner to the mic to read their piece. Afterward, Drs. Margaret and Rene Desjardins, patrons of the Serendipity Writing Contest, presented the winners with their monetary awards. Each winner will be published by Egg Rock Publications.
